The Chaser’s War on Everything – 110 – Free Money Test
You know those people on the street and outside of supermarkets etc who try hand you fliers, advertising their product or service? I admit that I try to avoid them if possible, and making eye contact with them is a big mistake LOL. The Chaser Team conducted a test to see if people would take notice when it was actual Money being handed out instead.
The Chaser’s War on Everything – 110 – Surprise Spruiker – Medibank Private
The Surprise Spruiker goes to an organisation and sets up his portable microphone system, and starts to “sell” their product or services to the public walking by. This is the Chaser, so of course it is full of sarcasm and satire, regarding any issues they are having at the moment! This time it is the Australian government owned health insurer, Medibank Private. What the hell is a Spruiker? – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spruiker
MacGyverisms – 402 – Blood Brothers
In this episode, back in his childhood home town, MacGyver is haunted by memories of his youth where a friend was killed by a gun while preventing his friend’s son from using a gun to defend himself against hoodlums.
MacGyverisms:
- Young Mac made a cart from a bicycle.
- Drain cleaner & phenolphthalein solution made fake blood.
- Takes a gun apart, and uses the pin to brace a door, trapping a bad guy.
- Uses a medical cart as a battering ram to bust open door to escape.
The Chaser’s War on Everything – 110 – Supermodel Food Drop
We all know that many supermodels are way too skinny, and just have a negative impact on women, creating ridiculous, imaginary standards on what the “normal” or “ideal” woman should look like. Ok, not enough time to keep ranting! The Chaser team decide to do something about it, and try help these walking skeletons with a charity food drop!
MacGyverisms – 320 – Murderers’ Sky
In this episode, when an elderly Chinese man is murdered by criminals who want to take over his business, MacGyver and the man’s grandson must work together to thwart the criminals.
MacGyverisms:
- Hi-fi speakers & cable simulated sonar to find secret door.
- Knocked out lights with window cleaner spray.
- Hid behind fake paper “rock” walls.
The Chaser’s War on Everything – 109 – What Have We Learned From Current Affairs This Week? – Insight & Cross Promotion
In this regular segment, the Chaser team analyse Current Affairs programs, A Current Affair & Today Tonight. It is from a satirical point of view of course, but it does make you think of how lame and tacky these programs can be, and seem to be more for cheap entertainment, rather than professional journalism. This episode concentrates on how insightful they are, and the cross promotions they stealthily and obviously put into their shows. Enjoy!
Prison Break – 302 – Fire / Water
Hooray, another episode of Prison Break! I cannot stress enough, how happy I am that it is set in prison again! It was great to see Sucre back in the show, and that Maricruz is ok. Very sad that they had to break up, even if it is temporary. The supposed mourning woman from the first episode, turns out to be Whistler’s girlfriend, but that could be a lie too. It is clear that she cares for him though, and wants him out of prison.
We finally find out why Whistler has a bounty on his head, as he apparently killed the Mayor’s son! Whoever kills him, or brings him in, will get an easy court hearing and should be set free. The lady who has been in contact with Lincoln regarding LJ and Sara, calls herself Susan B., but once again you can only take it with a grain of salt. There is definitely a lot to be discovered about this woman.
The water crisis set intensity and urgency to the entire episode. This was raised higher when word of Whistler’s location down in the sewers spread amongst the inmates. This lead Mahone down to the sewers where he busted the wall in and grabbed Whistler, threatening to kill him, if he wouldn’t go along with him. Michael needs Whistler alive of course, so he has to resort to associating with the big boss Lechero.
Michael needs to be of some use to Lechero though, which is where he performs a good ol MacGyverism and fixes the water system, which douses out the fury of the inmates, as well as pleasing Lechero, which ultimately saves Whistler. So now Whistler is free to roam the prison normally, but I am sure he will run into trouble still from others. The coolest thing for me though was finding out he is an Aussie! I thought he might have been Aussie or English from the few words he said in the first episode.
Now that the Whistler dilemma is out of the way, hopefully we get to see Michael perform some of his magic, and begin devising a plan to escape. It should be interesting, as he has practically no information on this prison, compared to his carefully planned and studied plan from season 1. McGyverisms – 217 – Dalton, Jack of Spies
In this episode, Jack fakes his own death and MacGyver must help him clear his name after he is accused of murdering a CIA agent.
MacGyverisms:
- Disconnects motorbike side car to escape from bad guys.
- Filled show cannon with makeup powder and fired it at bad guys.
- Used hooked bar to pull the wrong switch on the trash compactor.
MacGyver
MacGyver. Sure he is just a fictional television character, but he was and still is a hero of mine. I used to watch MacGyver when I was little, during its original run, and I am currently re-watching the series. Of course a lot of it seems cheesy etc now, but I still love the show and MacGyver is as awesome as ever!
This is very random, but whenever I would think back of my original MacGyver days, I always distinctly remember one night it was on. I was sitting at the dinner table, about to eat dessert, which was ice cream with chocolate topping and Milo in it. Don’t know what Milo is? I will blog about it after this. Anyways, I would always mix up the ice cream and whatever else I put in it, until it was a nice thick consistency, like a thick shake, then eat it.
My little Brother and Sister would always get me to do theirs too, because they could not do it as well as me. Yeah, I deserved a medal for it. LOL Now back on track. I don’t remember the episode perfectly, I just remember at that point in time, MacGyver was in a tough spot, hiding behind crates, while enemies were shooting at him. Why do I like MacGyver so much? His unique, intelligent, scientific ways of solving problems. He finds ways around using guns to protect himself and others. He loves and respects nature. He is just a nice guy! Oh, and you have to respect the mullet!
I just loved the show in general. It had a great mix of action, adventure, comedy, drama, and always had a happy ending. MacGyver is most famous for his inventive plans he devises out of thin air, and physically using random objects around him to carry it out. They are now known as MacGyverisms, which brings me to a new series of blogging I will be doing. I have been putting together clips of MacGyverisms for each episode, and I will share them here! 20 years on, this show is still very entertaining, yay for Richard Dean Anderson! (MacGyver)
The Chaser’s War on Everything – Crazy Warehouse Guy – Asking For Directions
This video refers to those annoying ads for warehouse clearances, that have a guy yelling, repeating, and generally being really annoying, talking about the sale and their supposed amazing deals. They are particularly based on the clearance sales held at the city convention center, with the voice over guy yelling fast and non-stop, and also the infamous rug sale guy who had a “closing down” sale every month. I don’t know how this guy could think people would continue to trust him, considering how many times he has supposedly closing down, it is ridiculous. It just doesn’t seem legal that he can keep false advertising like that on TV. Anyways, the video below, and similar ones I will post in the future, put the Crazy Warehouse Guy into other real life situations, where he will talk loud and crazy like in his ad. In this case, he is asking for directions. Enjoy!
